All three of these nations wanted control of Ceylon in large part to safeguard their trade in ivory, cinnamon, elephants and sapphires.

One World Trade Center reached its 90th floor this week - with just 14 more floors to go until the top. The structure can now be seen from all five boroughs of the city.
Stunning pictures showed how the area has been reborn since the 9/11 attacks more than a decade ago where almost 3,000 people lost their lives in the worst ever terrorist attack on American soil.

Copper and Bronze Leaf Jewelry Steel Artwork

Jewelry is actually not my favorite area but I came across some interesting leaf jewelry images while I was searching pictures of ginkgo biloba. Ginkgo is very old and powerful tree in nature and hailed in Chinese traditional medicine. Ginkgo enlarges veins which results in better blood circulation and finally better nutrition of all cells. Practically it means that more glucose and oxygen is delivered to the cells. This helps when someone have cold arms and legs. OK, back to the leaf jewelry. It is made from copper, silver or bronze steel and it contains many kind of leafs, not just ginkgo. Examples are ivy vine, oak, linden, rose leaf, maple, grape or acorn. And I have to say that I like it.

The World’s Biggest Construction Vehicles

We usually focus on the amazing results of extraordinary construction projects on our blog, but those spectacular creations don’t build themselves. It’s time to pay the proper respect to some of the machines that make jaw-dropping construction possible, especially those epic forces of man-made innovation that tower above the rest.

So here they are—in the world of construction vehicles, these are the five biggest and baddest:

Krupp Bagger 288: World’s Largest Trencher

To put it lightly, the Bagger 288 is a bucket-wheel excavator. But there’s nothing light about a 13,500-ton mobile strip miner. The German creation is 721 feet long, 315 feet high, and can clear an area the size of a football field three stories deep—in just one day.

Only in San Francisco

The City and County of San Francisco is the fourth most populous city in California and the 12th most populous city in the United States, with a 2008 estimated population of 808,977.[9] The only consolidated city-county in California, it encompasses a land area of 46.7 square miles (121 km2) on the northern end of the San Francisco Peninsula, making it the second-most densely populated large city (greater than 200,000 population) in the United States. San Francisco is also the financial, cultural, and transportation center of the larger San Francisco Bay Area, a region of 7.4 million people. In 1776, the Spanish established a fort at the Golden Gate and a mission named for Francis of Assisi on the site. The California Gold Rush in 1848 propelled the city into a period of rapid growth, increasing the population in one year from 1,000 to 25,000, and thus transforming it into the largest city on the West Coast at the time. After three-quarters of the city was destroyed by the 1906 earthquake and fire, San Francisco was quickly rebuilt, hosting the Panama-Pacific International Exposition nine years later. During World War II, San Francisco was the port of embarkation for service members shipping out to the Pacific Theater. After the war, the confluence of returning servicemen, massive immigration, liberalizing attitudes, and other factors led to the Summer of Love and the gay rights movement, cementing San Francisco as a center of liberal activism in the United States. Today, San Francisco is a popular international tourist destination, renowned for its chilly summer fog, steep rolling hills, eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture and its famous landmarks, including the Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, and Chinatown. The city is also a principal banking and finance center, and the home of over 30 international financial institutions, helping to make San Francisco eighteenth place in the world’s top producing cities, ninth in the United States, and is fifteenth place in the top twenty Global Financial Centers.

Flake Concept Car

Designed by the young freelance designer Da Feng, a small spotlight on the very interesting "Flake Concept Car", a study of style around a futuristic vehicle whose body is entirely designed with a view to optimize the aerodynamics. Adopting the concept of spoiler (as typically found in the back, controllable or not) the whole of its body is composed of a multitude of "mini-spoilers" made of carbon fiber which also have the peculiarity of adjusting each spoiler separately. Named as "Flakes", they are positioned flat by default and can be steered electronically when the vehicle enters into narrow places to keep the best ride possible. But that's not all; it also has the "D-Wheels" that improve the contact between the wheels and the road.

Proving One More Time, Jennifer Lopez Still Owns The Best Rear

I know I've said it time and time again, but I really do love Jennifer Lopez. I don't care about her personal life and all of that drama. Sure it's interesting to read about but there are far more intriguing things about Jennifer to talk about. Her movies are nearly always panned by critics but to be honest, I actually like a good romantic comedy from time to time and she's definitely made some good ones.

Rare Medication Side Effects

In the world that we live in, there is so called ‘division‘ on the West and the East world, or side at least. It is not so strange when you look at the differences between China and America for example. These two countries are the perfect example for showing how medicine works. The modern, western medicine says that almost everything can be cured with medicaments, while alternative, eastern medicine claims that the western medicaments cure just consequences and not the real causes of a disease and bad physical conditions, and unless you don’t heal the real cause(s) the disease will return, it one or the other form. There are many examples of complete healing using acupuncture, reiki, ajur-veda, meditation, yoga… Also, the alternative medicine gave a lot of answers that traditional medicine couldn’t. In this article we will try to give you one proof of what we said. Now think about this: If the modern medicine cures diseases completely, why do we have side effects? Here are some of the worst!

8. Hallucinations
I have the honor to inform you that you don’t have to take illegal drugs like LSD or some strong painkillers in order to have hallucinations. Some medications can have a hallucination as a side effect – visual and auditory, so the adventure is complete. A medicine called Lariam was invented by Reed Army Medical Center, to prevent the outbreak of malaria in the US army. Despite of Lariam’s serious side effects, it was until recently given to the army going out of country, and even to some tourists. Both of them had experienced and reported strange and scary hallucinations and very violent behavior due to taking of this medicine. In the beginning of 2000′s, American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) insisted on very detailed review of patient’s anamnesis, before the patient could get Lariam as a therapy. So if you have a depression or some kind of psychosis in your record, it will be better for you never to take Lariam.

Santa Now You Are Going Down

How would you feel in letting your child pose with Santa and holding a gun? A real Christmas spirit, isn’t it? Thinking about what Christmas should represent makes me think how guns are fitting the picture. What’s the story about, you will wonder. A US gun club has caused controversy by posting pictures of members with firearms posing with Father Christmas. The Scottsdale Gun Club in Arizona put up the images on its Facebook page. You’ll see photos of children posing with weapons from pistols to high-powered machine guns.

Take a Look at The Most Popular People in the 2011

We’ve entered the last month of this year, and it is time to set down our scores and make a quick look back over the last 365 days. Who were the most popular people in this year? And who the most influential? Who became a household name around the world? We have to admit, this was a really tough tear, we lost some really great people and the death of some dictators shock the public on two occasions. Also, we had few scandals, when some private footage leaked in public and an inevitable celebrity divorces which raised all sorts of speculations. The overall and general impression, at least according to this list, is that the year of 2011 was the year of women, because only three, oh… I’ve forgotten Bieber, – four men who managed to get on this list! Let’s see who were the most popular people in 2011:

1. Emma Watson
